How can you get started creating bountiful board books for the very youngest readers?
Join us for this panel discussion with 5 professional kidlit authors who are releasing brand-new board books in 2023!
Discover: What are board books, and how are they different from picture books? What are some challenges when it comes to creating them? How can you fit an entire story into just 10 spreads (usually 100 words or less!)?
While this discussion will touch on some Jewish topics, it will focus on board books in general and share valuable information for writers and illustrators no matter who you’re writing for.

- AUTHOR Sarah Aroeste. An American singer and composer, Sarah’s music is often referred to as “feminist Ladino rock.” She also writes books for children with Sephardic themes. Her upcoming board book is Mazal Bueno, illustrated by Taia Morley. Visit her at SarahAroeste.com
- AUTHOR Nancy Churnin. An American author and National Jewish Book Award winner, Nancy is a former theater critic and has published a wide variety of children’s books. Her upcoming board book is Counting on Shabbat, illustrated by Petronela Dostalova. Visit her at NancyChurnin.com
- AUTHOR Vivian Kirkfield. A retired kindergarten teacher with a masters in Early Childhood Education, Vivian inspires budding writers during classroom visits and shares insights with aspiring authors at conferences and on her blog, Picture Books Help Kids Soar. Her upcoming board book is Pippa’s Passover Plate, illustrated by Jill Weber.
- AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR Ann D. Koffsky. Ann is the award-winning author and illustrator of more than 35 books, including Noah’s Swimathon (a Sydney Taylor Notable book) and the Kayla & Kugel series. - AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR Varda Livney. Author and illustrator of PJ Library selections including Rosh Hashanah with Uncle Max, and What I like About Passover. Varda is an honors graduate of the Graphic Design and Illustration program at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.
